For a 5 minute primer on Wikileaks, Bradley Manning, and Julian Assange, watch Rap News (video).
Julian Assange is the Australian founder of Wikileaks, the organization that helps whistle-blowers anonymously expose corporate and government corruption. On April 5, Wikileaks released the Collateral Murder video, which showed U.S. troops murdering Iraqi civilians and 2 Reuters journalists.
Under Assange’s leadership, Wikileaks has released gigabytes of data that give the world an insight into the dirty underbelly of governments and multinational corporations.
While the U.S. politicians are calling for his assassination and holding hearings on whether or not they can nab him for espionage, the Swedish government has been attempting to extradite Assange from the UK. Sweden wishes to question him in connection with a handful of allegations that he sexually assaulted two women while visiting the country. Any claim of sexual assault should always be taken very seriously, but the timing is fishy and the unusual tenacity of Swedish courts makes it clear that the State is more interested in giving Assange the guillotine than it is in seeking justice for victims of sexual assault.
Jail the politicians who launch wars, jail the generals who run Guantanamo, jail the CEOs who profit from this financial crisis, free Julian Assange, free Bradley Manning, free all political prisoners.
